Affordable Housing
Friday, Feb 26 2010
Interested persons gathered on Monday to learn more about affordable housing and in particular the NJ State Bill S-1 that would affect COAH. Go to discussions to read a statement that Harlan Ettinger was kind enough to draft. We're looking for feedback if this is a stand the Com of SAJ and/or FUUFHC could take. Look for postings on more information and any further meetings. Please post your thoughts and ideas as well!

Welcome to the website for our committee!

This site belongs to all of us and I hope you will visit often and post information and ideas of your own as well as respond to those that have been written by others. As you post I'd like to ask you to follow this format - that is to include the date and finish with your name. I don't believe that this information is automatically included but think it will help all of us keep track of who is posting what when. There are ads by Google as this is a free site.

Please be patient with me as I learn how to navigate this site and make it as productive and easy to use as possible. I welcome any and all suggestions!!!

I'm posting materials I sent earlier in email. I really like the Circles model and we might want to think about inviting Terry Newhard from NORWESCAP to make a presentation on the the model and how we might replicate it or initiate it in Hunterdon County.

Also, Bob, Becky, and I were at the UULMNJ meeting yesterday and there may be immediate action needed on the affordable housing issue in NJ. Christie has announced intentions to eliminate the Council on Affordable Housing and the vote on this will be made very soon. I'll keep you informed as information and calls for action come in from UULMNJ. -Amy

Since our group is focusing on poverty, I think our first job is to help our fellowship organize a response to the earthquake in Haiti. It's not where we planned to put our focus, but it's a real need that has suddenly appeared. From what I'm hearing, money is the immediate need. I think an email should go to the entire fellowship telling them that they can donate online to the UUA/UUSC Joint Earthquake Relief Fund, or they can bring checks on Sunday made out to that fund, and that our "plate" this Sunday will also go there. We need the board's OK to send the plate there; I've asked them about it. After that it would be good to follow up with a longer-range action. I don't know if or when it will be practical to collect goods; right now there's no way of distributing them. If we do do an email right away, should it be from Bob, who has the compelling voice of our fellowship, or from Ruth, who has done such a great service by setting up this website and can convey the energy of our emerging committee? Or both?
